(NEW) It is with rarity and thoughtfulness that we add new brands to the AMW family. We’ve always felt that it was better to represent a few shops in a very deep way, vs having a brand list a mile long and only having a smattering of instruments available from any given manufacturer. Well, sometimes a story comes along and it jolts us into action! When we heard about the mission of the Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Company, we just knew that we wanted to be a part of it!
Troublesome Creek is unique among our offerings… first of all, they are a NOT-FOR-PROFIT (501 c. 3) enterprise, working with members of the recovery community around Hindman, Kentucky to not only build excellent stringed instruments, but also rebuild lives and livelihoods for their workforce. Through a partnership with the Appalachian School of Luthiery, Doug Naselroad and Troublesome Creek bring deep industry and luthiery knowledge in focus with the concept of helping those recovering from addiction. They rely on sustainable domestic hardwoods, exclusively. The instruments are simple and rustic in appearance, but have a dry and clear tone to compete with anything!
The HM-1 mandolin is simply appointed, but packs a TON of tone! It has Adirondack spruce standard, and this particular instrument has fine Appalachian black walnut back and sides. Standard specs include 1 1/8″ nut width, 7″ radius fingerboard, resin inlays and Golden Age nickel tuners. Fire stripe pick guard. The finish is a smooth gloss lacquer. Includes a fine (TKL) padded hard case. Tonally, this instrument rivals mandolins at twice its price!
