ON HOLD – PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT PURCHASE!
(NEW) We are passionate about the mission of our friends at Troublesome Creek down in Hindman, KY. As one of the only not-for-profit guitar makers in the world, they train and employ people in recovery from substance addiction to make their brand of compelling guitars and mandolins. We’ve been with them for a few years now, and they experienced a devastating flood as recently as 2022, one that more or less washed away their entire shop… thankfully they are back online and once again doing their important service of not only supplying us with great instruments, but helping a local population to find purpose and fulfillment.
This SD-2 could be classified as their “fancier” dreadnought offering, featuring high quality American tonewoods as well as a high gloss finish. It has an Adirondack spruce top, figured walnut back/sides, and a figured walnut neck. One of the cool things about TC’s slope D is that it has a 13-fret neck joint, which puts the bridge slightly deeper in the lower bout and accentuated the bass response. For those wondering about walnut as a tonewood, it actually has a very similar tonal profile to mahogany, with a little more sustain on average… quite underrated!
Appointments include triple layer top purfling with rope center, thick abalone rosette, fire stripe pick guard and sleek tortoise body binding.
For specs it’s 1 11/16″ nut width, 2 5/32″ string spacing at the saddle and long 25 1/2″ scale length. The fingerboard, bridge and pins are ebony. This one has Waverly tuners with faux-tortoise buttons. A quality TKL hard case is included.
They’re doing great work down there at Troublesome Creek, and we’re proud to be their partner!
