(USED) We’ll cut right to the chase: we’ve played ’em all, and this exquisite instrument from Chuck Baleno is probably the BEST sounding 12-fret 0 that we’ve had the pleasure of hearing. No fooling. It’s a triumph. A guitar this small shouldn’t sound this huge!
We’re not surprised. The Baleno Size 2 parlor has been a best seller in our store for years, and that model also transcends its small size… but stepping up to this 0 was a bit of a shock to the system! It has the perfect blend of depth, richness and also the clarity and dry edge that we look for in mahogany instruments. The creamy Lutz top is giving us all the feels! This guitar is just so fine!
Specs include the aforementioned Lutz and Mahogany, ebony fingerboard and pyramid bridge, 1 3/4″ compensated nut (which, in addition to the compensated saddle, means that this might also be the best intonating 12-fretter of all time!) 2 1/4″ string spacing at the saddle. The neck profile is Mr. Baleno’s vintage-inspired modified V, which has a little meat to it, but is far from a baseball bat. Stainless steel frets (standard) and short 24.9″ scale length. Rosewood binding. Golden Age tuners with ivoroid buttons.
The frets and playability are perfect, but there is notable lacquer checking spread around the top of the guitar (only presents at certain angles and is difficult to photograph) and a 1/4″ diameter finish chip on the treble side of the upper bout. Includes original hard case.
