(USED) We have a new leader in the clubhouse for the most spectacular and rare guitar in the shop! We originally ordered this Collings 00-41 back in 2008, shortly before Brazilian rosewood was permanently taken off the menu. Bill Collings had secured an incredible supply of salvaged Brazilian that had been submerged underwater, and the wood has dramatic dark streaking from exposure to minerals in the water. The look, the weight/stiffness and the sound are right up there with the best we’ve heard, and it’s easy to see why Bill and Bruce were excited to turn this wood into a few very special guitars.
This instrument was in our vault for some time until it finally went home with one lucky player. Now it is back, with only the faintest evidence of being played… no cracks or dings, no scratches, no issues whatsoever. We did find ourselves pleasantly surprised by how much the sound opened up in the short time that this guitar was away from us, and it is now a textbook example of why Adirondack spruce and Brazilian rosewood are the “holy grail” of tone wood combos.
This 12-fret 00 is short scale, has the vintage appropriate 1 13/16″ nut width and string spacing of 2 5/16″ at the saddle. Adirondack spruce top with small pockets of bear claw, salvaged “sinker” Brazilian rosewood back and sides, graded AAA by Bill and Bruce. Fully bound in ivoroid, abalone top border and rosette. Mahogany neck with modified “V” profile. 41-style fingerboard inlays (snowflakes and diamonds) and style 3 marquetry back strip. Slotted peghead with Brazilian rosewood head cap, Waverly tuners with snakewood buttons and engraved plates.
As we said, the condition couldn’t be better and the sound is superb. This guitar is an instant heirloom. Includes Hoffee hard case, graphite exterior and blue interior.
