(NEW) Bill Collings made his name by creating some of the most rocking acoustic guitars the world ever new, powerhouse pieces that would stand up with anything out there… so it was no surprise when he turned his eye to the world of electrics and started manufacturing industry-leading solid bodies, semi-hollows and archtops, enjoyed on stages and in studios worldwide.
The 290 DC is one of Collings’ most streamlined electric offerings, elemental in its simplicity but inspiring in the hand. These “Jr” interpretations have all the attitude you’d expect, and don’t mind being slung low.
This lovely example came from the factory just this year and features a mahogany body with Aged 1959 Faded Crimson finish. The aging process at Collings does not mean relic’ing, distressing, beating the guitar up with chains or any nonsense like that… rather, it just means that the finish has undergone cold checking to break the surface tension (body and peghead only, the mahogany neck shaft is smooth) and the hardware has a lightly tarnished look. The old “closet classic” approach, if we aren’t infringing on any copyrights here! Tortoise 3-ply pick guard, tortoise truss rod cover, tried and true Lollar P90 pickups. Short scale with 1 11/16″ nut. Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. Includes original hard case.
Aw, did you read all of that just to find out the weight? Ok, fine… drumroll please…
7lbs, 2 oz of goodness.
