(NEW) Collings mandolins have always punched way above their weight class, and now they have a new (not so secret) weapon in the tone wars: torrefied Sitka. By preparing the top in an oxygen-free kiln before construction, we end up with a top that has the stiffness and responsiveness of one on a decades old instrument. It doesn’t sound like an old Gibby, even better… it sounds like an old COLLINGS! With the fit, finish, and intonation to match.
This MT is our first with a baked Sitka top, and it has a warm yet chime-y sound. It has a satisfying “bark” but is in no way brittle or strident.
This instrument has flame maple back and sides, a gloss top, standard 1 1/8″ nut width, and ivoroid top binding.
A fantastic mandolin for just about any application, it might just be your last!
